This car is intended to work as a decontamination device for the civil defense system. It has the necessary facilities to build up a decontamination station, it can transport a crew of 6 fire men.
The Dekon-P is a type MAN 10.163 with a tilting double cabin and was built in 1999. It has single tires on both axles and a turning clearance circle of 18 meters. Filled-up with 150 liters diesel (38.6 gals) it has a maximum driving range of 600 kilometers (373 miles) assuming an average consumption of 25 liters/100 km (10.3 gals/100 miles).
The four-stroke cycle engine (a water cooled D 0824 LFL 09 with direct fuel injection) has a maximum power of 114 kilowatts (155 hp) when rotating with 2400 per minute; it's power comes from 4580 cubic centimeters (710 cubic inches) cylinder capacity. Getting up to a maximum speed of 109 km/h (68 mph) the car reaches up to a grade ability of 50 percent. when fully pay loaded. The driver can choose whether only the front axle or both axles will be activated.
A pallet makes up the vehicle's body with the following measurements: length 4,405 meters (14 ft 5.4 in) outside and 4,3 meters (14 ft 1.3 in) inside, outside width 2,5 meters (8 ft 2.4 in), inside with 2,39 meters (7 ft 10.1 in), height of the platform gate 0,7 meters (2 ft 3.6 in) and inner height 1,86 meters (6 ft 1.2 in). The mounted drawing bay carries up to 1000 kg (1.103 us-tons), it was manufactured by Dautel (type DCB 1000-45 RX).
Further data: maximum load 10,5 tons (11.58 us-tons), empty weight 6,350 tons (7 us-tons), maximum payload 4,150 tons (4.58 us-tons), length 7,360 meters (24 ft 1.8 in), width 2,5 meters (8 ft 2.4 in) without exterior mirrors or 2,847 (9 ft 4.1 in) meters with exterior mirrors, height 3,3 meters (10 ft 9.9 in), cir clip system towing device (maximum weight on it of 700 kg = 0.77 us-tons). The vehicle can pull non braked trailers up to 1,5 tons and braked trailers up to 10,5 tons. External connections are built in for plugging 12 volt or 24 volt external power and for charging the hydraulic two-circuit brakes.
A few words about equipment: anti-block brake system 'ABS', auxiliary heating system, 4 meter radio 'AEG Teledux 9', car stereo (which isn't actual in use to save expenses on Germany's radio fee system).
More data can be obtained from the type sheet of the 'BKK', central agency for civil defense: Dekon-LKW P.
Fortunately this vehicle wasn't called very often. Some reports are shown here:
Flash flood of river Elbe August 2002
Food and mouth disease 03/12/2001
Hammerbrookstr. 03/19/2001 - 03/21/2003

Here you also will find a short report on a practice:

In the new fire station of the Eimsbuettel VFD is only space for 3 engines. So the Dekon-P was taken away from the Eimsbuettel VFD and moved to the Alsterdorf VFD on 01/20/2005.
